Description gmrenak 2013-04-10 14:47:31 UTC
When using Windows Explorer in WinXP, clicking on any .ods spreadsheet file will not open the spreadsheet. Neither will they open if I right click, select 'Open With...', and then select the LibreOffice Calc application. In either case, the LibreOffice splash screen appears briefly, but goes away and nothing further happens. This behavior occurs both with older spreadsheets created in OpenOffice Calc and with spreadsheets created with LibreOffice Calc.

It seems these files are properly associated with LibreOffice since they show a LibreOffice icon within the Explorer list.

This behavior occurred with earlier 4.0.X versions as well.

Note that I can open .ods files just fine from within LibreOffice Calc using 'Recent Documents' or 'Open'.

I can't confirm this problem. ods files open as expected when I double click on them in Explorer.

Do you also have OpenOffice installed? Which one did you install last?

Again this would be easily solved if bug/enhancement #44462 was fixed.

OpenOffice in not installed; LibreOffice was installed last.

However, this appears to be a singular issue with a Windows folder
shortcut. I placed a folder shortcut (to certain OpenOffice spreadsheets)
on the desktop months before I replaced OpenOffice by LibreOffice; opening
the shortcut and clicking on any spreadsheet opened the spreadsheet in
OpenOffice as expected. After removing OpenOffice and installing
LibreOffice, the LibreOffice symbol appeared next to each spreadsheet in
the folder as expected, but I could no longer open any spreadsheet in the
folder in LibreOffice. Just now I placed a new Windows folder shortcut to
the same spreadsheets on the deskstop; opening this folder using the
shortcut and clicking on a spreadsheet opened in LibreOffice just fine. So
the problem appears to be related to a stale Windows folder shortcut that
started life with OpenOffice installed but was then 'corrupted' in some
fashion with the LibreOffice replacement.

Note that only the spreadsheets in the folder were affected; other
application files responded as expected when clicked. So it seems related
to the OpenOffice uninstall followed by the LibreOffice install.

My earlier responses are all that I know about the problem. I have not
experienced the problem since correcting the shortcut problem that I
described earlier.

You could do clean reinstall LO: uninstall LO, then do cleaning unused files & registry using tools such as CCleaner & System Ninja (make sure to unregister all related office extension, ods, odp, etc; remove LO & OO user profile directory). After you make sure your system is clean enough, then install LO 4.0.6 or 4.1.3.

I am going to close this as WORKSFORME - after more tests I can't replicate and OP is saying he can't replicate any longer. Very strange indeed but seems resolved :)
