The two PDF documents linked from this page render incorrectly in evince 0.5.1
with poppler-cvs as of 3-Apr-2006.  xpdf 3.01 handles these files correctly. 
(The linked page also contains snapshots of how these documents should be
displayed.)

this snapshot demonstrates the rendering bug.  compare to the sample on the
linked webpage, or xpdf 3.01's output.

Cairo backend bug, works on splash.

Yep, it is caused by the softmask being a different size than the masked image.
