Description Geir Inge Høsteng 2006-04-30 02:40:24 UTC
I am running an updated FC5 installation with the KDE desktop with 2 gfx cards.
One PCI-E (Geforce 6600 GT) and a pci (Radeon 7000/VE) card.

During startup the PCI-E card is set up properly while the PCI card is disabled.

The fault can be seen in this part of the log file:

II) RADEON(1): PLL parameters: rf=49159 rd=1007 min=-75440374 max=-33393405;
xclk=4327
(WW) RADEON(1): Failed to detect secondary monitor, MergedFB/Clone mode disabled
(==) RADEON(1): Using gamma correction (1.0, 1.0, 1.0)
(II) RADEON(1): Validating modes on Primary head ---------
(II) RADEON(1): Monitor1: Using hsync range of 32.00-91.00 kHz
(II) RADEON(1): Monitor1: Using vrefresh range of 58.00-85.00 Hz
(II) RADEON(1): Clock range: -75440.37 to -333934.05 MHz

As a result no video modes are availible.

What model are the monitors?
Comment 4 Benjamin Herrenschmidt 2006-05-02 21:01:17 UTC
Looks like it could be a problem reading the BIOS ROM of the PCI card ... Which
is your primary display at boot ? I suspect the server might be trying to use
the nvidia ROM for the radeon driver...
Comment 5 Alex Deucher 2006-05-02 22:58:40 UTC
you might want to try a newer X server with airlied's ROM fixes using sysfs.

I've tried different monitors and setups. This test was done with a Compaq
TFT8030 on the primary graphics card (6600GT) and a Compaq MV720 on the pci card.

I've set up the computer (asus a8n sli mainboard) to use the pci-e card (6600GT)
 at boot time.

How can I prevent it from using the wrong bios ? Why does the driver fail to
read the radeon card bios ?

I am not very fluent in compiling and setting up Xwindows. Right now i use a
clean fedora core 5 install updated to the latest rpms.

Where can I get this newer X server ? Are there any instructions on how to
install it ?

Hi Geir. Have you upgraded to Fedora Core 6? Report if this problem is fixed there, as naturally Core 6 has a newer X.org.

Sorry about the phenomenal bug spam, guys. Adding xorg-team@ to the QA contact so bugs don't get lost in future.
Comment 11 Alex Deucher 2007-11-12 15:00:23 UTC
Are you still have problems with xserver 1.3 or 1.4 and a recent ati driver?
