Steve Langasek suggested we turn on symbol versioning in XCB as a safety net
against someday needing to make a backwards-incompatible ABI change to XCB. I
think I've become convinced this is a good idea, or at least harmless.

Consensus of the industry experts is that symbol versions are a bad idea.
