The latest modular mga driver has a regression; I get no visible output whatsoever unless I specify Option "UseFBDev" within the Section "Device" of my xorg.conf Affected version: xorg-x11-drv-mga-1.4.1-1 (Fedora Core development) only works if I specify UseFBDev Working version: xorg-x11-drv-mga-1.2.1.3-1.2 (latest FC5) works without UseFBDev (though I need to use -ignoreABI to get this to load) Marking as "major" since this is a regression; this hardware has worked fine for months without requiring edits to the configuration. Please let me know if I need to supply other details to help track this down. Adding ajax to CC as he investigated this on my hardware
I am seeing this same problem on Mandriva Cooker now. When X starts the monitor just goes into DPMS Suspend mode and there is no output. Is there anything I can do short of reverting the driver to the 1.2.1 rev (which I don't have handy)?
I'm experiencing exactly the same thing on debian/unstable with my G200. For reference, this problem is also referenced here: https://launchpad.net/distros/debian/+source/xserver-xorg-video-mga/+bug/58721 http://thread.gmane.org/gmane.comp.freedesktop.xorg/7169/focus=7169 http://thread.gmane.org/gmane.comp.freedesktop.xorg/7146/focus=7146 I will try if I can pinpoint the exact version of the driver that broke this (If I can get mga from CVS/SVN/whatever compile, that is).
Okay, just compiled latest git version and it works. So, whatever has broken exactly, it got fixed since 1.4.2 (I also checked that checking out 1.4.2 from gets me a broken version). I might try to pinpoint exactly which version fixes the problem this weekend.
Okay, it seems the first git commit after 1.4.2 fixes the problem. I'm not really sure how to call it (does git have revision numbers or something?), but I mean this one: http://gitweb.freedesktop.org/?p=xorg/driver/xf86-video-mga.git;a=blobdiff;h=25da5a13ef385b0ea49efb4808cd8168504fa7d8;hp=6583b0c47cec39cfeca953a4e4ed6b798406f55e;hb=69cc0060d9516d5fba5fa46607a993f3ebfd5d89;f=src/mga_exa.c So releasing a new version soon should fix this problem for a lot of users.
I've just confirmed that version 1.4.3 indeed fixes the problem on my G200. Time to close this bug?

That patch only affects EXA, and the mention operation isn't supported on a G200. If you can, it would be cool if you could use git-bisect (http://www.kernel.org/pub/software/scm/git/docs/git-bisect.html) to find the commit that introduced the bug. I'm not sure you're seeing the same problem that Dave reported. Dave, what hardware did you see this problem on? Does 1.4.3 or 1.4.4 work for you, too?
