Hi, Through an honest mistake, a copyrighted design has gotten into the library. Please can we remove Ampelfrau ASAP? It is in the following categories: signs_and_symbols/flags/europe/ampelfrau_matthew_gates_01.svg transportation/roadsigns/ampelfrau_matthew_gates_01.svg transportation/ampelfrau_matthew_gates_01.svg Thanks, Matthew
According to the German Wikipedia (http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ampelfrau) this is a traffic sign introduced by a city administration (note: i read it using an automatic translation service). I am shocked by the idea such signs are copyrighted, it was paid with public money for public use.
Nontheless, if it's copyrighted, we can't include it. The copyright holder send me a kind email and seems very reasonable. He says he'd consider allowing free use with attribution. I told him that since OCAL is public domain we can't ensure attribution will follow the image, and as such it should be removed. It is my understanding that we don't yet have a section for works under other licenses such as the creative commons attribution licences (although I think it has been discussed on the mailing list before?). If we had such a section it might be possible to introduce the clipart there, although we should consult the original author first (Hans-Juergen Ellenberger, Germany <ELOFE[at]aol.com>). Matthew
Hi, I think this clipart can't be in a public domain license because everybody may copy/past in a document but a mayor can't use it for traffic sign in his town too without buying to the german city or the author of this signs... This clipart should be in a non commercial license... I agree this clipart have to be removed from OCAL. Patricia
Yes.. this has to be removed asap. It is an international trademarked design.
I deleted these previously. Thanks for notifying us...
