The local flat panel does not light up correctly at boot or when X starts. I'm able to make it light up by changing the mode to a non-native mode, and then changing it back to the native mode of the panel. It stays lit until dpms kicks in then I have to repeat the xrandr cycle to retore the panel to a working state.

Hm, "not light up" dead panel or just backlight woes? Also can you please attach dmesg with drm.debug=0xe?

Alex, care to provide the dmesg with debug enabled, requested in comment #3, please? Preferrably running a recent kernel, of course. Thanks.
Do you know what type of hybrid it is (mux/muxless)? If it was a muxed system maybe we just fail to detect the panel correctly, or the backlight is wired to other GPU.
Missing info for a long time. Feel free to reopen the issue with proper info. Testing with latest drm-intel-nightly booted with drm.debug=0xe. Thanks
