Description Paul Menzel 2013-10-05 09:51:10 UTC
Using an ASUS M2V-MX SE board with K8M890CE/K8N890CE [Chrome 9], starting Debian Wheezy with Linux 3.10 from Debian Backports, an SSD and sytemd 44-11, the system hangs after reaching the login console and the text on the screen suddenly is garbled and nothing is shown on serial console and I am not able to enter anything.

With a slower system (hard drive, SysV init sytem, Debian Sid/unstable, Linux 3.10-3-686-pae) the system freezes earlier but with the same kind of text corruption.

Looking through the Linux kernel output and comparing it with the Troubleshooting Wiki page [1], it might be during loading the DRM(?) module.

Please find everything pasted below.

Are you able to start the system in non-graphical mode or does the hang happens even before X starts ?
If it works with non-graphical, what happen when you start X manually ? Can you provide the X log ?
Comment 2 Paul Menzel 2013-10-07 06:39:22 UTC
I just start into text mode and the hang happens there already. The strange thing is there is nothing, Linux outputs to the ring buffer.
Comment 3 Paul Menzel 2013-10-07 19:17:44 UTC
Using another RAM module and the system works fine. So the crash was due to a bad RAM module. Unfortunately, Memtest86+ did not find that error, so I was unsure about it and had to get another module first. Sorry for the noise.

No, idea if INVALID would be more appropriate than NOTABUG. Please change that, if I made the wrong choice.
