When I have drm being initialized I can't load X. Trying to load X causes the computer to lockup. When DRM is removed X loads, and doesn't lockup the computer. This is an X800 GTO card. I had the card working in one motherboard, but not in the current one I am using, nor did it work after updating the bios on the old motherboard. I can load X, but not with drm. DRM seems to be causing the X11 driver to not be able to save the screen.

I helped someone else in the past month that seemed to have the same problem on a different motherboard. The other user didn't file a bug though.

Please try current xf86-video-ati git.
I no longer have the video card. I needed something that would work, and so I returned the X800, and I got an nvidia Geforce 7600GT that does work. Sorry about that, I'll close the bug since I can't help.
I no longer have the card, and can't test.
