details info - wave forms and comparison results

The ITE DP audio fails with certain display resolution settings, using intel-drm nightly build kernel.
(1) Linux (5.1ch 44.1K) + IT6506 1280x1024 60HZ/DP 2 Lane LBR => Audio no output.
(2) Linux (5.1ch 44.1K) + IT6506 1920x1080 60HZ/DP 4 Lane LBR => Audio stable OK.

1. The issues could also be reproducible in early kernel version 3.9.5 on Ivy/Haswell platforms
2. The issues don not exist in windows XP/7 on Ivy/Haswell platforms

There logs are filled with HDMI being plugged, although there's some DP stuff at the end too. Just to make sure, are you seeing the problem with HDMI or DP? Please attach a dmesg with *only* the problematic case. It's hard enough to pick out the relevant bits from the logs even then.

1. Use make menuconfig to define CONFIG_SND_DEBUG_VERBOSE in drm-intel-nightly kernel branch and re-install the kernel images in Fedora 19 on Haswell platform

2. Boot to Fedora 19 desktop and plug in a DP cable to connect the Haswell MB with DAC AMP board (DAC AMP board to DP monitor with another DP cable).
=> You could search "DP-1" keyword in the kernel log messages.

3. The DP monitor displays with pre-configured 1280x1024 then we launched the speaker-test GUI settings to test 5.1ch DP audio function
=> I think you could check "patch_hdmi.c" keyword for DP audio setting info in the kernel log messages.

Please check the wave form document (in PDF) that I attached to this tracking thread for the details. I don't know if the issue results from the DP signal fine-tunes or incorrect audio data source (since it works with windows 7/XP drivers on the same platform)

I'm not sure if DP Lane setting for data transfer would be the key to this case.
I would help test and debug if you could provide me with the relevant source update.

(1) Linux (5.1ch 44.1K) + IT6506 1280x1024 60HZ/DP 2 Lane LBR => Audio no output.
(2) Linux (5.1ch 44.1K) + IT6506 1920x1080 60HZ/DP 4 Lane LBR => Audio stable OK

Is this still an issue with the latest kernel? Please retest.
Comment 14 Jani Nikula 2014-09-05 09:24:38 UTC
Timeout, closing. Please reopen if the problem persists with recent kernels.
