Created attachment 88511 [details] Pdf of Invoice Hello, I receive regularly a pdf document but when I open it, no text is displayed. I have tried with the pdf viewers okular and zathura. If I change the backend to mupdf for those viewers the pdf is displayed properly. The file is a pdf version 1.2. It's old, but unfortunately, it's what I receive and it's from a firm, so I can change nothing. I have modified a pdf document with which we can reproduce the the problem. There is not a lot of text in the modified version. Just tell me if you need something else. Thanks
Works fine for me, which poppler and freetype versions do you have?
Sorry, I wanted to mention the poppler version, but I forgot. I have poppler 0.24.3 and freetype 2.5.0.1.
Just to be sure, can you attach a screenshot showing where the text is missing?

Created attachment 88568 [details] zathura with mupdf backend
I have just attached the two pictures. There is somehting more I can say if you don't have the problem. With zathura and the mudpf backend I get the following when I start zathura with the file: % warning: premature end of data in flate filter warning: ... repeated 6 times ... And with the poppler backend: % Syntax Error: could not create truetype face<0a> some font thing failed I have already asked on some forums, and I was said the problem has to do with some fonts. Take a look here https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=169198
How hard would be for you to try to downgrade freetype to 2.4.12 ?
I have downgraded to freetype 2.4.12, but I get exactly the same. I can't remember it worked in the past and for sure I have tried before freetype 2.4.12. But perhaps you want to try freetype 2.4.12 with something else.
It is not clear to me how the "Pdf of Invoice" should display. Ghostscript (current Git version, 9.11 pre-release) emits these warnings about the file: Page 1 **** Ignoring nested BT operator. **** Ignoring nested BT operator. **** Ignoring nested BT operator. **** Warning: File has unbalanced q/Q operators (too many q's) **** This file had errors that were repaired or ignored. **** The file was produced by: **** >>>> Composeur Ver. VERSION 4.7.1.83 <<<< **** Please notify the author of the software that produced this **** file that it does not conform to Adobe's published PDF **** specification. Cédric's "Pdf of Invoice" is an "incrementally updated" PDF. As such it is easy enough for PDF-savvy people to restore its original version (including the full content!). @Cédric: you should consider to remove the file if you think it contains confidential stuff!
Thank you Kurt for reporting it! I didn't know it was possible to find the data from the pdf. Unfortunately, I can't find how I can delete the attachment. Could an admin delete it or did I miss the option ? I could then send the pdf on request to solve the bug.
Sorry i can't delete the file. Maybe you can try https://bugs.freedesktop.org/enter_bug.cgi?product=freedesktop.org ? About the bug it's hard what to say, i can perfectly see it here with my freetype, and the error is pointing exactly to freetype being unable to create the font, so it *seems* that freetype may be the problem, but then if you update to my version you don't get it to work either, so i'm lost. I'll leave the bug open but unless someone can shed more light not sure we can do much.
