Description Dave Airlie 2013-11-12 21:33:44 UTC
We have a report on a set of HSW workstations running our RHEL6 backported kernel that after a number of reboots the machine doesn't finish booting.

Serial port logging shows the start of a NULL pointer dereference before the hw goes down completely.

We haven't reproduced this upstream yet due to lack of hardware,
and we haven't tried on other vendor HSW machines yet.

So this is a heads-up and hope someone can give it a quick try, the script they use just boots to runlevel 5 and reboots.

Just documenting what we discussed on IRC:

- Please blacklist i915.ko and try to reproduce the problem.

- Please boot with drm.debug=0xe and try to get a full log file for when the problem happens. I want to check if the power well is enabled or disabled when the Kernel starts touching the legacy VGA registers.

Thanks,
Paulo

Based on the conversations we had, I guess this got tracked down to being a issue outside i915.ko, right? Can I close this bug?

Thanks,
Paulo

Timeout. Please reopen if the problem persists with recent kernels or drm/i915.
