I have a DELL 510m notebook where I often use the suspend to disk feature. Kernel is 2.6.16.19 and X server 6.8.2. The X server is emerged from gentoo, Linux kernel is the official one. X server worked fine for a long time and I didn't change anything. Suddenly one fine day (today), I noticed my keyboard map (ucw-cs) stopped working. Then I tried to do a VT switch ctrl-alt-F1 ctrl-alt-F2 which normally works, and it doesn't do anything. The server is running on VT 7. When I run xev, I get this printout from pressing and releasing ctrl-alt-F1: KeyPress event, serial 31, synthetic NO, window 0x2200001, root 0x39, subw 0x0, time 62537375, (87,76), root:(144,208), state 0x0, keycode 37 (keysym 0xffe3, Control_L), same_screen YES, XLookupString gives 0 bytes: XmbLookupString gives 0 bytes: XFilterEvent returns: False KeyPress event, serial 31, synthetic NO, window 0x2200001, root 0x39, subw 0x0, time 62538962, (87,76), root:(144,208), state 0x4, keycode 64 (keysym 0xffe9, Alt_L), same_screen YES, XLookupString gives 0 bytes: XmbLookupString gives 0 bytes: XFilterEvent returns: False KeyPress event, serial 31, synthetic NO, window 0x2200001, root 0x39, subw 0x0, time 62539583, (87,76), root:(144,208), state 0xc, keycode 67 (keysym 0xffbe, F1), same_screen YES, XLookupString gives 0 bytes: XmbLookupString gives 0 bytes: XFilterEvent returns: False KeyRelease event, serial 31, synthetic NO, window 0x2200001, root 0x39, subw 0x0, time 62539666, (87,76), root:(144,208), state 0xc, keycode 67 (keysym 0xffbe, F1), same_screen YES, XLookupString gives 0 bytes: KeyRelease event, serial 31, synthetic NO, window 0x2200001, root 0x39, subw 0x0, time 62539987, (87,76), root:(144,208), state 0xc, keycode 64 (keysym 0xffe9, Alt_L), same_screen YES, XLookupString gives 0 bytes: KeyRelease event, serial 31, synthetic NO, window 0x2200001, root 0x39, subw 0x0, time 62540018, (87,76), root:(144,208), state 0x4, keycode 37 (keysym 0xffe3, Control_L), same_screen YES, Please tell if I should rune some more diagnostics and provide the result.
Sorry about the phenomenal bug spam, guys. Adding xorg-team@ to the QA contact so bugs don't get lost in future.
(In reply to comment #0) I have the same problem with Dell D800 (on Ubuntu 7.10). I also use suspend to disk (uswsusp). Shift, Ctrl and Caps Lock suddenly stop working from time to time without an apperent reason. When I change console to VT (using chvt) all keys are working properly. When I start new X session eveneryhing is allright too. When I get back into my keyboard broken Xsession, the problem persists. Only way to get rid of it is to restart Xserver. Can anyone help?
Closing an old bug. VT switching has been working for ages now, at least with current releases anyway.
