with version 4.2.0 beta it is not possible to create a connection to an existing database via ODBC, JDBC or any other connectors. It works still in 4.1.4. Then Extensions fail again.
Have just tested it with OpenSUSE 12.3. No problems here to connect to MariaDB with ODBC or JDBC from LO 4.2.0.0beta2 or LO 4.3.0.0alpha. Which "Extensions" do you mean? I haven't installed any special extensions for connecting with ODBC or JDBC. Couldn't see any in the extension manager.
Hello Robert, How do you create a new LO Base file to connect to an existing database? I can oly create a new one with hsqldb or firebird. Or I can open an existing file. But I can't create a new file to connect e.g to mysql, mariadb, or postgresql. This is an essential function for many Extensions built by ernernals. Mechtilde

Hello Mechtilde, I have just tested to create: Open LO4.2.0.0beta2 Left pane: New Database Database-Wizard appears → Connect to an existing database Chose the database → MySQL Chose ODBC → Chose the right connection and browse to the DB-Name Next → Username → Password required → Test : works Next → Save and proceed All works well here without a problem. Could test it also with PostgreSQL or Firebird, but the servers aren't running at this moment. Regards Robert
Created attachment 90803 [details] DatabaseWizzard This is the Wizzard I get when I start "New Database". There is no way to choose "Connecting to an existing database"

There is no way to > choose "Connecting to an existing database" Looks like the window isn't high enough. Try to type Alt+x. This is "Connect to an existing database". Or try to move with Arrow down to this. On the left you will see the steps for the JDBC-connection. I get the same wizard-window as in all other versions of LO. Only the embedded Database could be chosen. Could it be a problem together with the theme and windowmaker you use?
Created attachment 90806 [details] Database-Wizard with openSUSE, KDE4, LO 4.2.0.0beta2
I use Debian 8.0 (Jessie) with XFCE 4.10 The Window has 1366 x 768 Pixel. The Wizzard can set two times in the high on that screen. If I use the arrow down I can only choose the JDBC connection no other one. So I can't choose the integrated postgresql connector or a connection to thunderbird/icedove or Evolution and so on. Version 4.1.4 and older works well. This is the first time I see such a problem since 9 years.I didn' see it before Mechtilde
Hello Mechtilde, *, Robert asked me privately, if I could try to reproduce your bug. But I cannot, sorry ... :( I tested it that way: 1. Started Base 2. I just looked at the Wizard's possible choices. There was an existing item "Connect to existing database". I could select it and chose different items (Oracle JDBC, Groupwise, etc..) 3. Closed the dialogue via "Cancel" 4. Installed Alex' mysql-connector-ooo.oxt from http://sourceforge.net/projects/lomysqlconnectorextension/files/4.2/Linux64/ 5. Started Base again, but this time I chose "MySQL" from the dropdown menu and in the next menu "Connect directly". You see, I can not just only select every DB possible from "Connect to existing database", but also create a direct connection with the mysql-connector-ooo.oxt extension ... ;) Tested with: LO: Version: 4.2.0.0.beta2 Build ID: 1a27be92e320f97c20d581a69ef1c8b99ea9885d OS: Debian Testing AMD64 DE/DM: KDE 4.11.3 Java: java version "1.8.0-ea" Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.8.0-ea-b118) Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 25.0-b60, mixed mode) RDBMS: mysql Ver 15.1 Distrib 10.0.6-MariaDB HTH Thomas.
Hi Mechtilde, From the first screenshot, it looks like the window decoration has truncated contents of the window. Can you resize it ? Alternatively, can you navigate through the window buttons/selectors using the Tab key ? I don't see this problem on my master 4.3 build, but maybe it is particular to your 4.2 beta2 and some combination of your window manager ? Alex
(In reply to comment #9) Just for the record, I'm on Linux Mint Petra with Cinnamon desktop
I tested all possibilities you mentioned. I can't resize it, I can't select with the arrows It is Debian 8.0 (Jessie) XFCE 4.10 updated every day. I see only the window as on the screenshot. It is less than half of the windows height. I use Build-ID: 1a27be92e320f97c20d581a69ef1c8b99ea9885d
works in 4.2.0 RC1
