Description Chandan 2014-01-03 04:52:47 UTC
Hi,

We are adding support for new ppc64le (IBM powerPC Little Endian)
architecture as part of which we are looking at all the packages that
need update.
I was looking at “poppler” (from repo git://git.freedesktop.org/git/poppler/poppler and poppler-0.25 as well) and was failed to
build “poppler” on ppc64le machine because of outdated libtool.

We have worked with libtool maintainer to get alpha source release that
has all the needed bits to support building on ppc64le. A stable release
is expected soon.

You can pick up the libtool alpha source release from either of the
below :
ftp://alpha.gnu.org/gnu/libtool/libtool-2.4.2.418.tar.gz   (1.6MB)
ftp://alpha.gnu.org/gnu/libtool/libtool-2.4.2.418.tar.xz   (920KB)

Would it be possible for you to spin up a newer version of
"poppler" which would support ppc64le? by using alpha libtool
release?

I can help to validate the new release of the "poppler" works
well by compiling on ppc64le machine.

Appreciate your response.

Thanks,
Chandan

what does exactly "Would it be possible for you to spin up a newer version of
"poppler" which would support ppc64le? by using alpha libtool
release?" mean?

Cheers,
  Albert

Albert,
we are looking at new release tarball for distro to pick up. We are looking at being able to point the pkg tarball to the distro such that the pkg build in the distro build( that will obvious Little Endian version of Power Linux) without further issues.

The package poppler is using the libtool that help to generate the shared library. The current stable version of libtool does not have a support of ppc64le so that is why it failed to build the shared lib on ppc64le Machines.

By asking you to "spin up a newer version of poppler which would support ppc64le? by using alpha libtool"
we mean that , if it is possible for you to update your libtool to alpha libtool source available on the below link.
ftp://alpha.gnu.org/gnu/libtool/libtool-2.4.2.418.tar.gz (1.6MB)
ftp://alpha.gnu.org/gnu/libtool/libtool-2.4.2.418.tar.xz (920KB)

and release a new version of poppler.

Let me know if you still have any doubts.

Sorry, but I'm not going to release a tarball that uses an unreleases libtool. Feel free to reopen this bug once the new libtool is officially released.
