Description Florin 2006-06-28 04:48:55 UTC
Hi,

I installed XUBUNTU 6.06 (I'm a Linux newby) on a laptop that has a SM721
(Lynx3dM) graphic card.

I don't have direct rendering. I searched the Internet and all the
SiliconMotion drivers that I found don't have a Siliconmotion DRI module.

Is there a compatible DRI module for SiliconMotion cards? Where can I found a
driver with DRI module? Can I enable direct rendering for this card?

What altenatives do I have? (actualy all I want is to have 3d acceleration (now
if I run glxgears the framerate is 2-3) and to be able to play DVD-s without
the processor (it is a PIII at 600 MHz) to be used at 100%.

Best wishes,
Florin

Currently there is no DRI support for smi chips. It is on my todo list, but I
can't say when I'll get to it. In the meantime, you can play with dualhead
support (see bug 7328). The smi chips also have a MC controller (which would
help with DVDs), but I don't know that I'll ever get around to writing an XvMC
driver. If you feel motivated, smi publishes the databooks for all their chips
on their website.

There is no DRI support for this chip.
