chris.stone at gmail dot com says : For some strange reason ⇩ (⇩) is showing up as an up arrow in firefox, works in konqueror though and pasting the character in the gmail email works too, very strange.
U+21E9 is an arrow (should look a bit like this one: http://www.fileformat.info/info/unicode/char/21e9/downwards_white_arrow.png) This glyph is at the moment only present in DejaVu Sans, and not in Serif or Mono. Since KDE doesn't do glyph substitution well (replacing glyphs that aren't in a font with those from another font that has them), it will show as a big rectangle when you use Mono or Serif. Firefox can handle the glyph substitution and will display the arrow, even if Mono or Serif is used.
False alert. chris.stone at gmail dot com says : I mucked around with my font settings in firefox and changed them to DejuVu and it is rendering properly now. Thanks for your help! :)
