dmesg messages

While playing a 3d game it suddenly performed very poorly for a short while. Then the graphics froze, resumed after a few seconds still on reduced performance.
Attached is the dmesg error messages, and /sys/class/drm/card0/error

Please identify which version of mesa you are using, and if possible what game (and whereabouts in the game) that triggered the hang.
Comment 3 Martin Jørgensen 2014-02-03 04:44:50 UTC
Mesa 9.1.6
Played GZDoom (Doom2BFG, level2), 2 about in the game the GPU hang.
Comment 4 Kenneth Graunke 2014-02-03 05:32:56 UTC
You'll want to update to a newer version of Mesa. In particular, Mesa 9.2.3 contains a lot of important fixes for Sandybridge GPU hangs, which greatly reduce the frequency of the hangs. You could also try Mesa 10.0.2, which has a few more fixes.

Please let us know if you still experience this issue with a newer Mesa. Thanks, and sorry for the trouble!
Comment 5 Martin Jørgensen 2014-02-04 06:49:10 UTC
I will test with mesa 10.0.3 and return.
Comment 6 Martin Jørgensen 2014-02-05 07:49:59 UTC
tested with mesa 10.0.3, xf86-video-intel-2.99.909, same kernel, and got a hang. same game, but not same place.

Thanks for testing. This new GPU hang is coming from SNA, not the 3D driver. I'm going to assume that your original 3D hang was fixed by upgrading, and reassign this to Chris...
Comment 9 Kenneth Graunke 2014-02-08 17:58:57 UTC
Sorry, forgot to mention: the reason I suspect SNA is that IPEHR is MI_WAIT_FOR_EVENT, which Mesa never emits, but SNA does.
