Problem description:
I am using Kubuntu 12.04.4 with HWE-Stack Saucy / Kernel 3.11 on Netbook with resolution 1024x600 and LibreOffice 4.2.1 TDF-Version. This Problem was not in LO 4.2.0. If the list of recently opened documents is empty, the main window does not fit on the screen. The closer-button on the right top can not be used.

Steps to reproduce:
1. open a new text-document
2. close this document and you wil see the main window.
3. if recently open documents is not empty it will fit to the screen.
4. empty recently opened documents and is does not fit any more.
(Letters to big?)

Current behavior:

Expected behavior: it shoud fit.

Operating System: Ubuntu
Version: 4.2.0.4 release

Do you have the same problem if you switch to the English UI?

I deinstalled LO (4.2.3) completely. Then I installed same Version again, but without german language and help. The size of the screen was ok. See new attachments. Then I installed the german language-packs, and the problem was back. Even as I opened a document, the window was to large. Then I started writer directly with an empty document and the size of the window was correct again. This problem is only on my netbooks with resolution 1024x600! It began with version 4.2.1.

Best regards
Ulrich

Thank you for the answers. Sadly I can't do further because I do not have a notebook with the same resolution. Set status back to unconfirmed until we get an independent confirmation.
Set keyword to regression because it worked for you with previous version.

Best regards. JBF

Two screenshots

first screenshot shows main-window after starting LO. Second shows same main-window after starting writer directly and closing without saving document.

I just noticed, that I get a fitting main-window as I start LibreOffice with an empty list of recently used documents. The problem occurs as I start LO-writer and close writer witout saving so that the list stays empty. The main-window does not fit anymore. See third attachment.

The issue should be lessened a bit now that the StartCenter font has been reduced a tad in size. Please try again with newer versions.

If the issues is fixed for you please set the bug to WORKSFORME.
As Adolfo said, this has been improved. And the improvement has been confirmed by bugreporter.

Closing.
