tested against the temporary BDW drm branch from yesterday X hangs the GPU on startup, and the same happens with gem_linear_blits (error_state confirmed to match).

There is definitely a good point in the git history for this test. My first bisect appeared to be errant, meaning it was user error, or the bug was previously intermittent. In the latter case, my first sentence is a lie.

The version merged into dinq should be correct ...

Just to enlighten Timo so he doesn't think he's crazy. The version in dinq was not correct. It should be correct now however.
