Description Pierre Ossman 2004-06-19 00:04:40 UTC
Since I upgraded to xorg 6.7.0 I've been having problems with Xv on all three
machines I've tried it on. All of them have radeon cards of different models
(9700PRO, M9, 9000).

The problem is that the cards report Xv capabilities (using xvinfo) and all
calls to the Xv subsystem work. But nothing is displayed on screen.

The problem comes and goes (changes between reboots, never during a session) but
I haven't figured out what triggers it. At the moment the machines with the 9700
and 9000 work fine. The M9 worked until yesterday, when I changed kernel.
Changing back to the previous kernel didn't make the problem go away so now I'm
screwed basically.

I did however find a work-around. A bit pesky one, but still. If I change to a
text console (Ctrl-Alt-1 or similar) and then back to the X console, then
everything works. It continues to work until I restart the X server. So my guess
is that something has changed in the reset routines for the radeon cards that
causes this problem.

This problem does no longer appear on the machines at my disposal.

Looks like this bug isn't valid anymore. Closing.
