column show 2-decimal place number askew

I entered 2-decimal numbers in a cell and found some, not all, had the last number "chopped off". So, instead of 3.00, only 3 or 3.0 would show. The "TO" column is not a formatted time, just copy/paste. The "HOURS" was also copied in but in order to try correcting, I manually typed the number too. The total was calculation.

Hi, I am trying to open the doc on a linux box and it just contains text - I assume that bit is not platform specific. Could you pls post the actual ods file?

Cheers

Not sure why the jpeg went bonkers. The jpeg showed 2 columns but the only column that's important is:

TOTAL
3.00
7.50
7.5
3
7.5
7.50
4.0
3.00
8

all numbers were typed as 2 decimal places in the table cell.

I should note, I'm relatively new to LibreOffice having used MSOffice since its inception.

Is my understanding correct, that you have copied this from a spreadsheet?
If yes, have you checked the format of the cells in the spreadsheet (what can you find there)?

Can you post this document so we can inspect it. I can't reproduce this if I manually enter your numbers in a new sheet or if I copy/paste them. Thanks.

LibreOffice doc showing column of decimal numbers

Trying to upload the LibreOffice file as a *.doc file instead of image.
Comment 7 rbc 2014-03-22 14:10:44 UTC
It's not viewing as a document file. Not sure what I'm doing wrong.
Comment 8 Tim Lloyd 2014-03-23 03:50:33 UTC
Yup, still showing as a text file. No matter. I think Andy's post is relevant.

Can you right click on one of the "faulty" cells and select "Format Cells"
Click on the "numbers" tab
Category - Number?
Format - General?
Under options->Decimal Places, what do you see?

The last could be important. Can you do this for all affected cells pls? Based on the original post this should say 2 decimal places. Can you verify?

Cheers

I know I said "cell" but the doc is in Writer - word processing. So, there's no ability to format as decimal number. The other components of the document don't adapt to creating as a spreadsheet.

Phew. Getting a bit out of my league but I'll persevere and see if we can push this in the right direction.

I suppose one question is when does the problem occur? So you type in a column of numbers with 2 decimal places. At some point the numbers lose one or more decimal places. When do you lose the decimal places? Like, after you type the number or after you exit the cell or after you save the document?

Cheers

It was happening as I typed and exited the table cell. I was using a right-align tab.

Bit earlier tonight, it came to mind to use decimal tab and that seemed to work. But, the other tab should have worked too, just not aligned to decimals.

Hi, I opened your document and all the cells in the table are formatted as text.
To get the right formatting, select the cells, right click and select Number format. In the dialog that open, select the right format for the table cells with the decimal number you want or the time format (I see only date/time values in your table).
