The installation problem with the Windows Installer is based on Windows XP SP3,
with Windows 7 SP1 there are no problems.

Can you please post a screenshot of the error message you are seeing? XP is end of life in April 2014. So maybe time to upgrade your OS.

How does http://www.libreoffice.org/download/libreoffice-fresh/ behave on the machine in question?

well that is normally a bad advice. My sister for example needs her old Thinkpad only for surfing and writing some letters. She is a student and does not have very much money, but Windows XP and LibreOffice work great and fast on this machine, but the hardware is too limited for running Windows 7 (especially because of the drivers) and thus she won't change anything on this system. Moreover she can't use Linux as she needs a software because of her studies and is tied to Windows. Don't advice anybody to update their machines/OSes if you don't know the circumstances!

Lothar:
First don't answer directly from your emailer but by using this link:
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=76506#add_comment

Then you might try the raw method:
- uninstall any LibreOffice/Openffice/Apache OpenOffice you have
- rename (or remove if you don't need it), your LibreOffice profile (see https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/UserProfile for more information)
- clean your Windows registry (with a free tool like ccleaner)

Then:
- Download LibreOffice 4.1.5 from https://www.libreoffice.org/download/libreoffice-fresh/ (and not from another website which might have a corrupted file).
- Install LibreOffice in a local disk (so not on a network share or something).

Roczek: I understand what you mean. However first version of XP has been released 2001 and SP3 has been released in 2008. Even if there are a lot of softs to help you secure your computer (firewall, antivirus, etc.), the more and more the last versions won't be compatible with XP.
Just by curiosity, I wonder what Windows soft she really needs (something mandatory in her university). Of course, completely off topic, so I'll stop here :-)
Comment 7 Weispfennig, Lothar 2014-03-24 17:04:57 UTC
thanks for all of your support informations. I found the solution
by searching the main disk C: for "Installer" and found some programs
installed last year which used "Windows Installer 3.1 KB893803". So I searched
Windows Update for this patch and found "Windows Installer 4.1 KB942288"
which I downloaded, and installed it. After that I tried to install four
program packaches which where cancelled during installation process with the same
error message: They all worked fine.
Comment 8 Dennis Roczek 2014-03-24 17:20:49 UTC
Is that a packager problem? Should we check if a certain patch for the windows installer is installed (and/or add it to the install routine)? Can somebody verify that LibO install breaks with certain Windows Installer versions?
Comment 9 Andras Timar 2014-03-24 17:54:28 UTC
This report was the first I have ever seen with this error message. Therefore I think that the source of the problem not LibreOffice package, but Lothar's Windows installation. He could not install not only LibreOffice but other software packages, as he stated in comment 7. I am not aware of any special patch requirement to install LibreOffice. Fortunately "Windows Installer 4.1 KB942288" fixed Lothar's problem, so this bug can be closed.
