Description Marco Gatti 2006-07-27 07:08:34 UTC
Hi! I'm writing this to you after opening a ticket to the ATI
customer service because i swear that they won't give me enough help.
Straight to the problem:
i'm using Debian Etch amd64 port (custom linux kernel
2.6.17.6) and i'm having troubles when shutting down X (like
rebooting or halting the system) with the fglrx drivers; when X goes down a
blank screen appears and the system doesn't respond anymore.
This is the error i'm having in the Xorg logs:

(EE) fglrx(0): === [R200DALSetControllerConfigForRemap] === CWDDC
ControllerSetConfig failed: 6 - 0

When Xorg starts i only have this warnings:

(WW) fglrx: No matching Device section for instance (BusID PCI:5:0:1) found
(WW) fglrx(0): board is an unknown third party board, chipset is supported
(WW) fglrx(0): Specified desktop setup not supported: 8

I have a Sapphire ATI Radeon X700 PRO PCI-E 256MB and i've tried the
fglrx debian sid packages (driver version 8.24.8) and also the ATI
package (version 8.26.18).
Do you happen to know if someone has ever had this problem?
Someone knows what can i do? Googleing, asking to the debian community and to
ATI wasn't so helpful.
Thanks in advance for a reply.

First of all, this is an fglrx driver bug. Since that driver is closed source
and not supported by Xorg, you should not report it here. Sorry that ATI support
sucks so much. :-/

There is an unofficial bugzilla for fglrx at http://ati.cchtml.com/. I believe
bug #239 there is the same problem you're experiencing. See also
http://wiki.cchtml.com for more community information related to fglrx.

Anyway, there is a possible workaround. If you're using GDM you can set

  AlwaysRestartServer=true

in /etc/gdm/gdm.conf. Other display managers may have similar options. Hope this
helps.

I'm closing this bug as NOTOURBUG.

FYI there's also unofficial bugs here, just change product to xorg and component
to driver/ati proprietary.
