Description Jasper St. Pierre 2014-04-15 21:57:44 UTC
I get these warnings on Xorg (and Xwayland) startup:

The XKEYBOARD keymap compiler (xkbcomp) reports:
> Warning: Compat map for group 2 redefined
> Using new definition
> Warning: Compat map for group 3 redefined
> Using new definition
> Warning: Compat map for group 4 redefined
> Using new definition
Errors from xkbcomp are not fatal to the X server

I can provide my system keymaps if you need those, but I'm quite sure they're stock xkeyboard-config as shipped by Fedora.

I'm having exactly the same warning messages in my setup, using stock Arch Linux "xkeyboard-config" package.

I see exactly the same warning on my Linux Arch. And it correlates with the application specific volume issue for Banshee that I posted at https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?pid=1445343

Here is the issue description. I have a keyboard with volume up/down key that I use to set Banshee volume. I also have a pulseaudio with flat volume enabled (default setting). The volume up/down change both master and application specific, it works until volume goes to zero. Once volume becomes zero I see following messages in the log

Aug 09 11:26:36 argo gdm-Xorg-:0[294]: The XKEYBOARD keymap compiler (xkbcomp) reports:
Aug 09 11:26:36 argo gdm-Xorg-:0[294]: > Warning: Compat map for group 2 redefined
Aug 09 11:26:36 argo gdm-Xorg-:0[294]: > Using new definition
Aug 09 11:26:36 argo gdm-Xorg-:0[294]: > Warning: Compat map for group 3 redefined
Aug 09 11:26:36 argo gdm-Xorg-:0[294]: > Using new definition
Aug 09 11:26:36 argo gdm-Xorg-:0[294]: > Warning: Compat map for group 4 redefined
Aug 09 11:26:36 argo gdm-Xorg-:0[294]: > Using new definition
Aug 09 11:26:36 argo gdm-Xorg-:0[294]: Errors from xkbcomp are not fatal to the X server

And I can not modify application specific volume from my keyboard anymore. Master volume level works fine though. Only gnome3 "Sound" application allows me to reset the Banshee volume level back to non-zero value.

I think my volume issue is related to this bug.
