We've had 2 people reporting that launching any OpenGL application (even glxinfo) with xf86-video-ati 6.6.1 (and FWIW xserver 1.1.1) 100% reproducably crashes the X server. An identical build (same binary) works well on other hardware, so the problem seems to be triggered by specific hardware combinations. An upgrade to the xf86-video-ati GIT tree as of 2006/07/19 doesen't change anything. Please try to get a backtrace with gdb, see http://xorg.freedesktop.org/wiki/DebuggingTheXserver . Does this also happen with AIGLX disabled? Also, are there any commonalities between the affected systems, e.g. are they all SMP or something?
We just received an identical bug report from someone using a VIA Unichrome chipset; while it has (until now) shown up only with ATI cards, the problem might not be in the ATI driver. (Can't help w/ more debug info until one of the people actually having the problem gets back, it happens to work perfectly on all my machines)
Output of lspci -v on the VIA box showing the same issue: http://rafb.net/paste/results/71D5KS20.html I don't think any of the boxes are SMP, the only common thing I can see is that all (except one) of the nonworking boxes have a VIA AGP bridge
Marking broken (status null/blank) bugs in xorg with no activity in a long time as fixed. Please reopen if you think it's necessary, but first do a search if a similar bug report is already filed and in a NEW/ASSIGNED state. These bugs do not currently show in most search results as they do not have any status.
