Xorg.0.log

Bug description:
This is related to this bug I reported here:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-intel/+bug/1307623

I tried the upstream kernel from drm-intel-nightly (2014-04-17-trusty) in order to investigate the bug above. It actually solved the external monitor resolution issue, however I had another even more critical issue: my laptop display turns blank completely. It remains blank even when I boot it without any external monitor.

System environment:
-- chipset: intel i7-4600U (HD-4400)
-- system architecture: 64-bit
-- kernel: from upstream mainline kernel at http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/drm-intel-nightly/2014-04-17-trusty/
-- Linux distribution: Ubuntu 14.04
-- xserver: 1.15.1
-- xserver-xorg-video-intel: 2:2.99.910-0ubuntu1
-- Machine or mobo model: Lenovo X1 Carbon 2014 (20A7CTO1WW)
-- Display connector: DisplayPort

Reproducing steps:
* install upstream kernel from http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/drm-intel-nightly/2014-04-17-trusty/
* boot with this kernel

Tried the latest 3.15 rc2 kernel and drm-intel-nightly kernel, still the same issue:

linux-headers-3.15.0-031500rc2_3.15.0-031500rc2.201404201435_all.deb
linux-headers-3.15.0-031500rc2-generic_3.15.0-031500rc2.201404201435_amd64.deb
linux-image-3.15.0-031500rc2-generic_3.15.0-031500rc2.201404201435_amd64.deb

and

linux-headers-3.15.0-994_3.15.0-994.201404300205_all.deb
linux-image-3.15.0-994-generic_3.15.0-994.201404300205_amd64.deb
linux-headers-3.15.0-994-generic_3.15.0-994.201404300205_amd64.deb

I don't even know where to start the debugging.

Please set drm.debug=0xe module parameter and attach dmesg again.

Thanks. I'm also following this relevant bug 73539 and noticed there is a fix there. Just tried the latest drm-intel-nightly kernel (3.15.0-994_3.15.0-994.201405080316), and the black screen issue seem being solved now.

dmesg log with drm.debug=0xe

In case it's useful for double-check, I'm still attaching my dmesg log with drm.debug=0xe .

The new drm-intel-nightly kernel solves blank screen issue, but caused the lost of native resolution on OneLink Pro displayport, which was fixed before. I fired a new bug 78507.

Chunlei Wu, is this issue resolved now?
Comment 11 Chunlei Wu 2014-05-12 16:37:38 UTC
Yes, the blank screen issue reported in this bug has been solved in drm-intel-nightly kernel.
