Description Jonas Møller 2014-05-14 20:50:32 UTC
The screen freezes and I am unable to move my mouse or give any keyboard input, then after about 2-3 seconds I can type and click/move my mouse. But whatever occurs during this freeze causes certain fonts to becom corrupted. When restarting the X server everything is back to normal, so it seems to me like small parts of the font cache is being overwritten.

Here are pictures:
The fonts are clearly "disturbed": http://a.pomf.se/erguxn.png
Font appears normally when highlighted: http://a.pomf.se/eqhiyi.png

The bug seems to occur randomly, it has happened twice after a recent upgrade (Arch linux is running the more experimental packages.)

Software information:
    Xorg-server: 1.15.1-1
    Awesome Window Manager: v3.5.5
    uname -sr:
        Linux 3.14.3-1-ARCH
    Display drivers:
        local/intel-dri 10.1.3-1
            Mesa drivers for Intel
        local/libva-intel-driver 1.3.1-1
VA-API implementation for Intel G45 and HD Graphics family
        local/xf86-video-intel 2.99.911-2 (xorg-drivers xorg)
            X.org Intel i810/i830/i915/945G/G965+ video drivers

Sounds more likely to be a GPU issue. Please attach Xorg.0.log and /sys/class/card0/error after one of these events.

It happened again, attaching Xorg.0.log now. Was able to move my mouse
during the incident.

Hmm, reply by email didn't attach the error state. It is a GPU hang, and the device recovers, just that it died whilst writes to the font cache were pending and discarded. The error state should help identify the cause of the hang.
Comment 6 Chris Wilson 2015-01-31 11:19:56 UTC
Without the GPU hang, which bugzilla kept eating, I cannot make any progress identifying the root cause.
