Only with X start (don't start gnome-session), then start steam.
Run any games in steam, the game UI only display in the center of whole screen and display area be about 1/9 of the whole screen, other area be blank.
At this time, the mouse only can move in game UI display area, and there's no any response when mouse click the game menu.

Reproduce steps:
----------------------------------------
1. xinit
2. start steam
3. run Counter-Strike
4. watch the screen & move mouse

Game screen

Add a short-cut of game screen
Comment 2 jinliangx.wang 2014-05-16 10:03:34 UTC
It's not a regression issue.
Comment 3 meng 2014-06-16 07:40:18 UTC
The issue also exists on 2014Q2
Comment 4 meng 2014-06-16 07:40:50 UTC
Ian, could you reproduce that?
Comment 5 Ian Romanick 2014-06-17 23:52:57 UTC
I don't have a BDW system. Perhaps Ken or Topi can reproduce?
Comment 6 Kenneth Graunke 2014-06-18 18:38:51 UTC
I can reproduce this problem. It works fine if you use a window manager.
Comment 7 Eero Tamminen 2015-01-12 10:32:46 UTC
Bug description states BDW, title states BYT-M/BDW/HSW/IVB, on what HW the issue actually happened?

BDW has had a lot of fixes during summer & fall, does the issue still happen?
Comment 8 shuo.wang 2015-01-13 07:38:19 UTC
This bug is also exist by All platform.
Change the subject to [SNB+]UI is not displayed correctly with games in Steam only with Raw X, and no response with mouse click the game menu
Comment 9 Kenneth Graunke 2015-01-13 11:23:20 UTC
Does it work with AMD or Nvidia hardware?
Comment 10 meng 2015-01-14 05:35:41 UTC
The issue also exists on NVIDIA (driver:319.49).
Comment 11 Kenneth Graunke 2015-01-14 10:37:16 UTC
This this isn't our bug.

Common factor is X, and as it happens only on BDW, the X driver Intel. Moving to more appropriate component.
Comment 13 Kenneth Graunke 2015-01-14 10:53:50 UTC
Huh? According to comment 8, this happens on SNB+, not just BDW, and according to comment 10, it also happens on NVidia. It sounds like Steam games just have issues without a window manager.

It's actually an SDL (or steam equivalent) bug iirc.

> It's actually an SDL (or steam equivalent) bug iirc.

Is there bug about it on SDL or Valve bug tracker?

(Pointer to upstream bug in "see also" field is nice in case somebody else bumps into this. Raw X checks are nice for our own testing, so if there's no upstream bug, filing one would be appropriate I think.)
Comment 16 Chris Wilson 2015-01-14 12:55:24 UTC
No, I just looked at the X requests and wrote it off as bad client behaviour.
