What keyboard do you use?
What regional settings are set?

With 4.3, French language is set as default.

Marking as NEEDINFO - we need additional information

1. What Urmas requested
2. What Operating System
3. What version of LibreOffice

Mark as UNCONFIRMED once you answer these questions. Thanks

Thanks Urmas and Joel. Here are some precisions:

- I am using a standard US International keyboard layout (which allows me to type French accented characters using key combinations, very useful).
- My regional setting are French, France.
- My OS is MS Windows 8.0.
- My LibreOffice version is 4.2.5.2.

Thanks in advance for your help!

The text should assume the keyboard language, so make it "French - US International."
Also, there is 'ignore system language' setting which can help too.

Thanks Urmas for the hint, but my keyboard is already French - US International (at least this is what MS Windows is displaying as settings)...

Therefore, IMHO it is not relevant to use keyboard info.

If the user has downloaded the French version of LibreOffice (with menus in French, etc.), which is my case, the documents' default language should be French.
Comment 6 Urmas 2014-07-27 23:27:16 UTC
There is no 'French' version of LO.
Installation of 4.3 with the French UI gives me French language as default.
Comment 7 David Bourguignon 2014-07-28 13:00:26 UTC
Thanks Urmas. By "the French version of LO" I meant "LO with the French UI".

Since I am currently using the 4.2.5.2 official release, I will wait until the 4.3.x is officially released and I will let you know about the result...

Thanks in advance for your understanding!

Setting to UNCONFIRMED.

Note: REOPENED is for a bug that a developer says they fixed (thus the bug is put into RESOLVED -> FIXED) but a user can still see the problem on a version that should be fixed.

For bugs never confirmed by a neutral third party the correct status is UNCONFIRMED. Thanks!

@David Bourguignon
are you still seeing this issue with LibO 4.3.5.2?

Dear tommy27, thanks for your question and my most sincere apologies for not replying earlier to your inquiry. Unfortunately, the machine I was testing LO on six months ago underwent a serious crash in January, and I am still fighting to repair it since.

This PC configuration was special in the sense I was using a US keyboard in "US International" mode, and therefore ended up encountering bugs that most LO users do not encounter, apparently.

However, I have switched to another machine with a French keyboard since and cannot reproduce this bug any longer.

In conclusion, I do believe it could be worthwhile to add to the LO standard test suite a use case including a US keyboard used in "US International" mode (therefore allowing to enter accented characters thanks to key sequences such as CTRL+' then e for the French é).

Thanks again for your help.
