Problem description: A sheet that has spaces in cells recognizes date as text. This is normal, however when the spaces are removed via find-replace text is not converted to the date format. Even if text is converted to date format via format cell properties ' sign is being placed to the beginning date in cell. Workaround is all text needs to be copied to notepad and copied back from notepad to import the text as date. Steps to reproduce: 1. A sheet that has spaces in beginning and/or ending of a cell that has date as data. 2. Use find-replace to remove all spaces in the cell. 3. The cell only has date data but it is treated as text. (1st bug) 4. Use cell properties to set cell and date. 5. Cell still is text and ' sign is added to the beginning of cell data. (2nd bug) Current behavior: 1st bug; When all spaces is removed, the date data is still treated as text. 2nd bug; When date formatting is selected , the cell is being added ' sign and still in text format. Expected behavior: 1st bug; When all spaces is in a cell is removed, if the text in a cell contains only date data, the data should be treated/formatted as date. 2nd bug; When date formatting is selected for a cell , the data in the cell if suitable should be converted to date; and/or should be removed from anything that makes it a text. Operating System: Windows XP Version: 4.2.6.2 release
Hi Burak, This may help you any way: http://extensions.libreoffice.org/extension-center/ct2n-convert-text-to-number-and-dates Cheers, Cor
Hi Burak, (In reply to comment #0) > 1st bug; When all spaces is in a cell is removed, if the text in a cell > contains only date data, the data should be treated/formatted as date. > 2nd bug; When date formatting is selected for a cell , the data in the cell > if suitable should be converted to date; and/or should be removed from > anything that makes it a text. Thanks for filing. Sounds logic to me. But basically it means starting conversion from text cells to date cells, while you have multiple cells selected. Not sure about possible side effects here. @eike: can you pls comment?

I think the problem is that the cell does not contain a date, but a string. And we know what that means... Hence my suggestion in comment1. I would suggest resolve as NotABug.
