My laptop automatically switchs to vt1 when init services fail (changing power levels changes runlevels and some services may fail), switching manually back to vt7 always leaves a black screen. I must kill xgl and all applications i have running to restore xgl. Linux Gentoo 2.6.18-suspend2 ati-drivers-8.29.6 (hw: Radeon Mobility X600) mesa-6.5.1-r1 Xgl-0.0.1_pre20060928 compiz-0.2.0
Sorry about the phenomenal bug spam, guys. Adding xorg-team@ to the QA contact so bugs don't get lost in future.
I also have this annoying issue. When compiz-fusion is started, if I try to switch to a console VT (or a different X session), when I switch back to the session which uses compiz-fusion I get a black screen. I can still move the mouse but can't click anywhere. The keyboard is stuck and I can't switch VT (only magic SysRQ keys still work). The only way to kill Xorg is either to reboot or to ssh to the computer and restart Xorg, and it will work again. This happens on two different computers, both with compiz 0.7.6, Xorg 7.3. One of them uses the proprietary legacy NVIDIA driver (96.43.05-25.1) with the NVIDIA rendering path. The second computer uses the i810 graphics driver with the AIGLX rendering path. Both computers run Opensuse 10.3.
Partially well-known issue, mostly related to drivers being mean. Feel free to either open a driver-bug or open a bug at bugs.opencompositing.org if there isn't one already.
