Created attachment 111470 [details] log_buf_len=1M && dmesg > kernel_log_xxx.txt I can switch to all tty* and somehow except tty7 (where I get that noise screen) In tty1 it looks like resolution is about 1280x1024 (native res. for my LCD). On tty7 I have gnome. Can't do anything there. Screen doesn't change at all. I have NVidia GTX550Ti. Linux thepc 3.13.0-43-lowlatency #72+7.0trisquel2 SMP PREEMPT Mon Dec 15 03:41:11 UTC 2014 i686 athlon i686 GNU/Linux ps -ax under root returned: 171 ? S 0:00 [irq/43-nouveau] 1702 tty1 S+ 0:00 grep --color=auto nouveau dmesg: http://pastebin.pw/arzeht dmesg is also attached
This happens with linux-libre 3.13 and even with linux-libre 3.18.1
I was going to ask you to try 3.18 or 3.19-rc*. Do you get the same errors with 3.18.1?
I use Trisquel 7. I don't have linux-libre 3.19 at all and even 3.18 in Synaptic. In Synaptic I have 3.18.1 I got that error with linux-libre 3.13, 3.17, 3.18.1 I've never compiled linux-libre kernel and I'm not sure I can do it. So, I have to remove NVidia GTX550Ti and use built-in AMD Radeon. It works with 3D acceleration (but it's very weak) P.S. And as far as I know, I'm not able to compile usual linux kernel, coz of binary blobs.
(In reply to IlyasRK from comment #3) > I got that error with linux-libre 3.13, 3.17, 3.18.1 I was referring to the errors found in the dmesg you linked, aka. the SUBFIFO0 ones and the switch to software fbcon due to GPU lockup. If you still have the logs from 3.18.1, it might be nice to attach them too.
Created attachment 111486 [details] all files found in /var/log/ except folders all files found in /var/log/ except folders I've just made video (650MB). I'm uploading it to dropbox. When it's ready I gonna send you link. That way you will see what happens clearly
Not sure if the nouveau card was plugged in with the last XOrg.0.log, but there are no traces of the nouveau X driver in it (nouveau_drv.so), make sure you have that installed (even if this does not help you now, but for a completely working machine with nouveau, you'll need that driver)
Here you can see video: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/60242132/MOV00F.MOD Last Xorg.0.log may not contain anything about 550Ti, coz with that card I can't work at all. How could I be in here with that card? Watch video, please, and comment it. Maybe clue is very close
And, yeah, on video you see: Linux thepc 3.17.7-gnu.pae #1 SMP Wed Dec 17 09:30:49 UTC 2014 i686 athlon i686 GNU/Linux

I've just rechecked video card work with: Linux thepc 3.13.0-43-lowlatency #72+7.0trisquel2 SMP PREEMPT Mon Dec 15 03:41:11 UTC 2014 i686 athlon i686 GNU/Linux And got same problem again (noise screen). But after 5-10 minutes all of a sudden logon screen appears, but background was absolutely white (no image). I could login and desktop appears partially (Gnome Menu, System Tray, Workspace switcher, Window buttons), but with no background - all around is white... You can see Desktop Icons also and can even run Home, Trash and etc. I tried to run Urban Terror, but it hangs... Attached 3 files

If you can reproduce that behavior, save the dmesg of that run. Can you as well try a Desktop without compositing/OpenGL and see if the problem happens there?
(In reply to Tobias Klausmann from comment #14) > If you can reproduce that behavior, save the dmesg of that run. May you suggest me live-cd distribution which should work properly with my NVidia GTX550Ti after boot?
> May you suggest me live-cd distribution which should work properly with my > NVidia GTX550Ti after boot? I've just tried trisquel-mini_7.0_i686.iso After boot I got same problem. Switched to tty1 and after 10 minutes tty7 became absolutely black... Even after 15 minutes nothing changed. Just black screen on tty7 and tty8. But you can very quickly switch from one tty to another. Resolution is indeed 1280x1024 (native resolution of my Flatron), scrolling in man pages is fast... I've tried: modprobe -r nouveau and got "it's in use!" error
(In reply to IlyasRK from comment #15) > May you suggest me live-cd distribution which should work properly with my > NVidia GTX550Ti after boot? It's mostly not an distribution related problem, but if you really want to test live-cd distibution, pick an alternate one (away from your normal distribution), any will do: Mint, Fedora, openSUSE, Arch, ... (just to name a few, no particular order or preference)
Created attachment 111549 [details] ubuntu 10.10 desktop i386 logs I've just tried ubuntu-10.10-beta-desktop-i386.iso I works with my video card. But max resolution is 640x480. With 3d acceleration. But it's too slow... uname -a: Linux ubuntu 2.6.35-19-generic #28-Ubuntu SMP Sun Aug 29 06:36:51 UTC 2010 i686 GNU/Linux dmesg and other things attached

Tried: ubuntu-14.04.1-desktop-i386 ubuntu-14.10-desktop-i386 CrunchBang Linux 11 "Waldorf" All with same problem... Then I tried Linux Mint 17.1 "Rebecca" - MATE (32-bit) After boot from flash-drive (mint 17.1) you can select usual mode or compatibility mode. With usual mode I got same problem. With compatibility mode mint works fine. Screen res - 1024x768 with 3d acceleration. Urban Terror (800x600) runs with ~10fps... Slow. But works
I've also tried linux kernel 3.19rc2 (not linux-libre) on Linux Mint 17.1, but still with same problem...
