If I remove my microphone (rear plugin), both stereo channels get routed to both speakers rather than being separated; also, if both channels are identical, they cancel out and I get nothing. That is to say, if I use the system "Sound" utility and select a speaker to test, the test sound comes out of both speakers rather than just left or just right; if I play a game with monoaural sounds, the game sounds that normally come out of both speakers are completely muted. Plugging the microphone back in restores normal functionality, so this is a minor nuisance for now, except I worry about (1) my microphone breaking and (2) malware listening to my mic (minor issues as well, I suppose).
seem like driver bug does it also happen when you use alsa hw:0,0 device when using speaker-test ? speaker-test -D hw:0,0 -c2 -t wav aplay -D plughw:0,0 mono.wav

It was real while it lasted -- about four days -- but I can't reproduce it now. (I used to hate problems like this, they always drove me up the wall...) BTW, "mono.wav" appears to be one of your personal files; I don't have it.
