My ATI Readon M6 LY has never been stable, and it isn't any more stable now with Edgy, either. I've provided snapshots of what the screens look like, in hopes that they give you information. I've listed below the four different crashes that can occur. I've labeled them as Crash1, Crash2, Crash3, etc. Sorry about the fuzziness of some of them. I turned off flash so the screens wouldn't be darkened. * Crash #1: Screen goes all TV-like. The computer screen is all screwey, but the rest of the computer is still responsive. In other words, I can still goto Ctrl+Alt+F1, and restart GDM. In this particular crash shown (which looks slightly different then what it normally looks like) I could go to Ctrl+Alt+F1, and everything would clear up (Crash1-2). Normally things would still be all TV- scrolly like. I was able to go back to Gnome (Crash1-3). * Crash #2: Screen fades into a whitish negative kind of look. Computer kernel seems to still be operating, since I can execute the emergency Alt+SysRq+S (sync disks), Alt+SysRq+U (unmount, remount), Alt+SysRq+B (reboot) commands. This particular screenshot was taken during BZFlag. I found that if I didn't let the map list fully load, the computer would crash. * Crash #3: Screen just plain freezes. As I mentioned before, this crash occured when I was loading something new, in this case, Firefox Preferences. I've upgraded to latest drm, mesa, and xf86-driver-ati modules from git and cvs, but I still get crashing. Now I get screen-goes-blank and screen-gets- zoomed-and-strecthed-vertically-plus-squigglies crashes, but crash #1 and #2 is gone. I'll upload new pictures for the new crashes.
Please don't combine several issues into a single report. For each of the issues you're still seeing, please follow up to an existing report about it or create a new one.
This bug post contains problems that either are fixed, or need to be re- explained now that I have more data on the crashes. I'll post a link to a new bug report once I make the new bug report.
