Description Vincent Lefevre 2015-07-15 23:53:41 UTC
When a video is played, either by VLC or by MPlayer, the kernel log /var/log/kern.log is filled with lines like:

also completely filling dmesg output.

Someone else has the same kind of problem:

Comment 1 Vincent Lefevre 2015-07-15 23:59:23 UTC
Note: my machine is a Debian/unstable laptop with kernel 3.16.7-ckt11-1.

v3.16 was released almost a year ago. Does this happen on a more recent kernel?

I can't test: nouveau fails completely with a 4.0.5 or 4.7 kernel (available in Debian). I suspect that this is bug 89047 (similar error messages), according to:
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=89047#c1
Comment 4 Olivier Diotte 2015-07-16 21:52:26 UTC
I tested 4.2-rc2 as described here: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux-lts-vivid/+bug/1474538/comments/3 . It just locks up instead of filling the partition (which has the same effect of making the computer unusable :s ).

I am cloning Linus' tree and will test v3.19, v4.0 and v4.1. I'll report with my findings. Please let me know if I should test other versions or from nouveau's tree or what not.

Seems like a totally different issue. Don't use the nouveau tree. File your own bug, include your own info.
