Screen goes black (backlight switches off), doesn't come back.

Steps to reproduce:

1) in Chromium open website:
https://www.google.ie/flights/#search;f=DUB;t=IXZ;d=2015-12-17;r=2016-01-15;q=flight+dublin+port+blair
2) click on any of the shown flights, the list begins to unfold, rendering halts, screen goes black

Reproducibility: worked 5 times in a row with reboots in between blackouts. At attempt 6 used "Alt Gr+SysRq+k" to kill X, display came back. Strangely since using "Alt Gr+SysRq+k" problem is not reproducible any more. However key combination did not kill X, all applications remained open.
