To reduce some ambiguity, I was running KDE Plasma 5 on Fedora 23 at the time, browsing github. Firefox acceleration (OMTC) has been turned off. 

All peripherals are dead, but I was able to SSH in, which is how I acquired the above information. 

Interestingly, you can stop sddm / kill x, and the screen will go blank after a few minutes (about 5), but if you startx again (or sddm) the displays shows what was last shown (i.e. exactly where it locked up, the same image before it blanked.) The screen doesn't blank without killing anything, though.

This is stock F23 now, but yesterday I observed the same behavior in new code with the 4.4 kernel and mesa 11.1.1-dev here: https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=72180#c43

I tried various things, including "options nouveau config=War00C800_0=1" and confirming by observing the workaround output in dmesg. Still crashes.

I suppose that I forgot to mention that this happens nearly instantaneously without PGRAPH firmware. We're talking about 30-seconds or so after loading up konsole and checking dmesg. Maybe related to kwin effects.

Are you, perchance, enabling DRI3 in your xorg.conf? If so, try sticking to DRI2.

I did in fact enable DRI3, or well... at least Xorg says it's allowed.

Hi, I got tired of suffering freezes every few hours, so I had to move back to the proprietary driver. 

Please let me know if you have a plan of attack for this, and I'll work with you as best as possible. I won't be further updating this bug with any new crashes as a result.

Isn't bug #95054 related, or at least my comments there?
I have a similar problem on a HP ZBook 15 G2 (GK208), kernel 4.5.4, see my comments and attachment in bug #95054.
