I'm using ubunutu 15.10 with the nvidia blob driver and when plugging in the external monitor using unity, unity quits and I am greeted with the login screen.

From #intel-gfx:

< ickle> so Xorg.0.log, lightdm logs, xsession-errors anything that has the actual crash

Bug #76921 [1] contains the “same” backtrace.

Comment 4 Paul Menzel 2015-11-20 15:22:38 UTC
In #intel-gfx@irc.freenode the user ickle responded, that the crash is unrelated to the Intel drivers and suspects the modesetting driver or the proprietary NVIDIA driver.

Regarding the Linux i915 errors, a separate bug report should be submitted.
Comment 5 Chris Wilson 2015-11-20 15:24:15 UTC
The crash is between -modesetting and -nvidia. Presuming -modesetting/core for next step in analysis.
Comment 6 Paul Menzel 2015-11-20 15:35:17 UTC
Ok, having nothing plugged in, then populating the DisplayPort the external monitor turned on. Then plugging in the VGA cable and switching to the VGA input it didn’t crash.

Chris, thank you for updating this report!
