(Fedora Core 6 (FC6), xorg-x11-drv-nv-1.2.0-4.fc6, Asus M2NPV-MX motherboard, nv430/Ge6150 chipset) After the RedGat graphical boot sequence (during which a pointer is visible), the mouse pointer disappears when the gdm login screen comes up. Setting Option "SWCursor" "True" in the device section of xorg.conf stops this happening. Additionally the problem will also affect the nvidia proprietary driver if rhgb is used; again using SWCursor will fix it (although it causes compiz issues), as will simply disabling rhgb (see also 5190 https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=5190 where apparently use of the nv during rhgb has left the system in an odd state when the nvidia driver starts). See also <https://www.redhat.com/archives/fedora-list/2006-December/msg01121.html> for a report of this same issue on a very similar Asus board with the n430 chipset.
Sorry about the phenomenal bug spam, guys. Adding xorg-team@ to the QA contact so bugs don't get lost in future.
