Created attachment 121458 [details] kern.log with drm.debug=14 kernel: drm-intel-next 01-24, -nightly 02-02 mesa: 11.1.1 ddx: git Soon after plugging in HDMI to this KBL machine it hangs hard.
tried with i915.dc_states=0 i915.power_well=0 and without dmc fw and it still happens
if the monitor is plugged in before booting up, it won't hang and things work until cycling through modes where it'll hang again when selecting "extended" mode where both displays are in use non-mirrored
Hi Timo, Could you give more details about your HW and SW environment? thanks
ubuntu xenial (16.04), otherwise as mentioned on the initial comment. Tried also with accelmethod blt, didn't help. HW is a pizzabox-laptop of an undisclosed make.. GPU pci-id is 5916 (KBL GT2)
Raising priority due to platform impact
note that this does not happen on the KBL-U SDV I have (with a minidp-HDMI adapter), only on the OEM machine which has a fullsize HDMI port
Is this a Hang or just an unrecoverable black screen? There is nothing in the log that suggest a gpu hang or a panic... what happens with latest kbl 1.01 dmc firmware? and without firmware completely? (removing the /lib/firmware/i915 and updating the initrd) Also it is i915.disable_power_well=0 instead of i915.power_well=0. Can you please double check that? But honestly my biggest suspecious is around Watermarks. Might be worth to test this series: https://patchwork.freedesktop.org/series/5158/ Although it is under development and not merged yet. Thanks, Rodrigo.
looks like 4.6-rc7 works fine, thanks
