Upstreaming from:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-intel/+bug/1555431

Cross reference:
https://trac.videolan.org/vlc/ticket/16729

Put in original Ant-Man DVD (not burn, copy, etc.) via DVD player, opened with VLC, full screened, clicked Next button, and crashed.

This happened before and after installing libdvd-pkg from Ubuntu repositories.

Occurs with VLC 3.0.0~~git20160226+r63712+37~ubuntu16.04.1 from:
https://launchpad.net/~videolan/+archive/ubuntu/master-daily

Also, I've updated the BIOS to the latest version from the vendor and no change.

This doesn't happen with VLC 2.2.2 on Windows 8.1 (different machine).

As per VLC upstream https://trac.videolan.org/vlc/ticket/16729#comment:2 :
