The current tarballs for xcb-util and xcb-demo are incompatible with the recently released libxcb and xcb-proto, mostly due to the Great Renaming and new error handling. More projects are starting to depend on the util libraries: evas depends on xcb-aux and xcb-image, and cairo depends on xcb- renderutil. There is probably some cleanup required for this (e.g. camel case to underlines). This bug should block such bugs. Another possibility is to break the more critical/mature util libraries out into their own tarballs. xcb-aux and xcb-renderutil come to mind.
xcb-demo still hasn't gotten a new release after the Great Renaming, but xcb-util has, and apparently nobody cares that much about the demos. :-)
