GPU crash dump from /sys/class/drm/card0/error

Play movie in kodi, suddenly display gone and following log found in dmesg. After reboot system become normal.

[drm] stuck on bsd ring
[drm] GPU HANG: ecode 1:0xa8eeeb7e, in DVDPlayerVideo [4335], reason: Ring hung, action: reset
[drm] GPU hangs can indicate a bug anywhere in the entire gfx stack, including userspace.
[drm] Please file a _new_ bug report on bugs.freedesktop.org against DRI -> DRM/Intel
[drm] drm/i915 developers can then reassign to the right component if it's not a kernel issue.
[drm] The gpu crash dump is required to analyze gpu hangs, so please always attach it.
[drm] GPU crash dump saved to /sys/class/drm/card0/error
[drm] Enabling RC6 states: RC6 off, RC6p off, RC6pp off
[drm] stuck on bsd ring
[drm] GPU HANG: ecode 1:0xcbedeb76, in DVDPlayerVideo [4335], reason: Ring hung, action: reset
[drm:i915_context_is_banned] *ERROR* gpu hanging too fast, banning!
[drm] Enabling RC6 states: RC6 off, RC6p off, RC6pp off

We seem to have neglected the bug a bit, apologies.

The issue is occurring with a pretty old kernel and in bsd ring.
Reassigning to libva component.
There were improvements pushed in kernel and libva that will benefit to your system, so please re-test with latest kernel & libva and mark as REOPENED if you can reproduce (and attach fresh gpu error dump & kernel log) and RESOLVED/* if you cannot reproduce.

Besides kodi, can you reproduce this issue with other vaapi based player?
Comment 3 haihao 2016-12-16 12:42:56 UTC
The issue in https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=95197 disappears after using a recent Linux kernel and libva. #95917 and #95249 are similar, so could you also retest with latest kernel and libva?
