Description Dongseong Hwang 2016-05-13 10:51:28 UTC
It's half year on-going critical issue for chrome browser. https://bugs.chromium.org/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=550091

The temporary solution is to disable "Unredirect Fullscreen Windows" in CompizConfig Setting Manager.

This bugs are reported for all Intel Core products between Westmere to SkyLake with Ubuntu and ElementaryOS.
https://bugs.chromium.org/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=550091#c58

I tried to disable "Unredirect Fullscreen Windows" in chromium code level, but Ubuntu windows manager doesn't respect _NET_WM_BYPASS_COMPOSITOR.

I'm not sure, but it looks related to show_bug.cgi?id=93844
Comment 2 Dongseong Hwang 2016-05-13 10:56:17 UTC
I compare dmesg and /var/log/Xorg.0.log between after freeze and right before freeze. There is not any log added after freeze.

I missed to describe how to reproduce it. It's 100% reproduced in my IvyBridge laptop.

- launch chrome browser
- open 5 tabs and play youtube on all tabs
- focus youtube video element in any tab. (e.g. click video controller)
- click 'f' repeatedly until crash. (less than 20 times in my case)

After upgrading Ubuntu 16.04 from 15.10, this issue disappears.
