Email sent to xorg-owner@lists.freedesktop.org results into following:

--- >8 ---

Evidently, both emails went to /dev/null.
Comment 1 Daniel Stone 2007-01-13 05:19:39 UTC
it works perfectly, it's just that only subscribers are allowed to post.
Comment 2 Sami Farin 2007-01-13 05:21:33 UTC
I am subscriber.
Comment 3 Daniel Stone 2007-01-13 05:52:51 UTC
the address you're subscribed with is ...
safari-ml-xorg-users-jg3szeudnwkjk4a7ekpizgyiolqbcuat7iz43da5@u.safari.iki.fi

the address you're posting with appears to be ...
safari-b-xorg=lists.freedesktop.org-1168565064-z24t7rdv7fapom3o@b.safari.iki.fi

i can't see the From: line, mind. but if it's different, then the list is
working entirely as expected.
Comment 4 Sami Farin 2007-01-13 05:55:13 UTC
So this is just your ad-hoc anti-spam measure?

Is this the best you can do?
Comment 5 Daniel Stone 2007-01-13 05:58:09 UTC
no, it's _your_ ad-hoc anti-spam measure. if you want to use something as
incredibly broken as bizzare randomised return addresses (never did see the
point there), or challenge-response systems or whatever, then that's great, but
we don't have time to run around picking up after you, so if it breaks, you get
to keep both pieces. it's up to you to decide whether you want to be able to
post to mailman lists, or whether you want to continue running that system of yours.
Comment 6 Sami Farin 2007-01-13 06:07:16 UTC
You didn't get it. My system works as designed and there's nothing broken in it.

So you use this From: check as a lazy guy's anti-spam measure?

And when someone would like to Cc this mailing list in some bugreport etc.
and use Mail-Followup-To properly, they get rejection message and attempt
to write xorg-owner which seems to go to /dev/null , that's your great anti-spam?
Comment 7 Daniel Stone 2007-01-13 06:35:05 UTC
i could deliberately design a car that falls on its side when you try to turn.
it would be working as designed, but it would be a crap car.
Comment 8 Daniel Stone 2007-01-13 06:38:09 UTC
(in case this is unclear: disposable addresses are broken. yes, disallowing
non-subscriber addresses is unfortunate, but the benefit of bouncing a
ridiculous amount of spam outweighs that. disposable addresses are not a
consideration here, since it's your custom system, and thus your problem. it's
clearly not how things were intended to work. i'm not interested in continuing
this discussion further.)
