Using poppler-0.5.4, I experience the following issue when searching for
hyphenated words. Let's take http://www.free-culture.cc/freeculture.pdf. If you
search for "software" on it using poppler (through evince) you won't find
"soft-ware" on page xiii, but using acroread you'll find it.

This seems to have to do with a way of generating PDF documents and not with
acroread itself, since searching for "translation" on
http://pdf.codev2.cc/Lessig-Codev2.pdf, neither poppler nor acroread will find
"transla-tion" on page ix.
