Roger. The problem is when I use an upstream kernel I get no audio at all.
I don't know where the "Skylake" part comes from, this is about missing LPE audio support for certain BYT/CHT models. Sure, some i915 bits and pieces are needed for that as well, but the main thing is the audio driver. Can't help you with that, sorry. Updating the bug details for posterity.
