Since Fedora 24 I switched to the Wayland session because the X-Session no longer detects my trackpad. Now when I attach a projector and want to mirror the screens, this no longer works. Using the multimedia-keys on my laptop to enable the projector, it only switches between either of the displays on and extended but not mirroring. I dug a bit and saw, via the gnome-control-center, that only the native resolution of the panel is available. I think that since the laptop panel and the projector no longer have a resolution in common, mirroring no longer works. With X (F23) both the projectors at my university and the panel fell back to a lower common resolution (maybe 1024x768 or something like that) with black border on my laptop panel. Now I must decide between either using the trackpad or attaching a projector but not both.
Can you please file this bug at https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/mutter ? That would be a feature request for them.
