Sorry, I couldn't figure out which product/component this belonged to. Here are the steps to reproduce: 1. open a window while xcompmgr is running 2. set an opacity value on it 3. unmap the window 4. change the opacity value 5. remap the window xcompmgr will continue to use the old opacity value. I'll post a patch that fixes the problem.
